Program Description

The Master of Arts in Spanish is a thirty-six hour program that prepares students for doctoral study and for careers as instructors of Spanish in secondary and higher education. In addition, the program provides students with the skills necessary to enter the workforce as interpreters within various industries by providing a thorough foundation in practical fluency skills through cultural, linguistic, and literary training. The program does not require a thesis.


Admission

Students seeking admission to the graduate program in Spanish must submit the following directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions:

  1. Graduate Application
  2. Application fee
  3. Official transcript from the baccalaureate degree granting institution
  4. Two letters of recommendation
  5. A writing sample on a Spanish cultural topic that demonstrates advanced proficiency (5 double-spaced pages)
  6. A graded writing sample from an upper-level Spanish course

To be admitted into the program under regular graduate admission, applicants must have a 3.0 overall GPA.


Degree Requirements

The M.A. in Spanish requires a minimum of thirty-six hours of graduate credit, and the student may choose one of two degree plans.
